Something New?

Benjamin is definitely something new for our little family. We call him a big boy, but he's only 6 months old! And everything he does is new and exciting....well, sort of. Eating solids has delivered many new things into his diaper and that is not really "exciting", is it? Benjamin reminds us that even the little things in life are new and exciting, like the pretty flowers in the backyard and the patterns on the rug, and the way it feels to put avocado in your hair. EVERYTHING is new for him. I sometimes wish we could remember what it was like to see the world that way - no prejudices, no filters, no fear.

Following Benjamin's lead and embracing the spirit of "new-ness", I am diving into creating this blog to share with you. Laura (middle school buddy and computer guru extraordinaire) helped me create this page and equipped me with just enough information to make me a little dangerous at the keyboard! Seriously, she knows me so well and determined long ago that blogging about my life with Ben would be a most appropriate outlet for one such as myself. Ben is new. Being a mom is new. Learning to get dressed, eat lunch and load the laundry with one hand in 3 minutes is new. Making baby food, browsing the bookstore for good kids books, and finding activities for people under 2 feet tall is new. Feeling alone and unsure and out of my skin - that is so new for me I can't even begin to explain. So maybe this thing called blogging will help me along on this journey of newness and represent yet another exciting new adventure that Benjamin has brought to my life.

Enjoy the ride (in your words)... we consider it a roller coaster ride, with ups and downs. Just hold on tight! I am looking forwarding to getting your updates on your blog. That will have to suffice because I won't see you or your family often as I'd like. Love you!! - Hope

I cannot begin to imagine all that you are really going through... I just know that you are a fantastic mom and Benjamin is a very lucky little boy. I am sure that being a stay at home mom can make you feel a little isolated. You are right, this is quite an adventure you are on. Embrace this time with your son... and know that I am always "in the neighborhood." Speaking of which, how about Tuesday and Thursday this week?:) I am so proud of you and I love you more than think I could ever express... Your sister, Joyce

What a great blog! Thanks for sharing this with your many friends, Lory! I look forward to checking your blog frequently for updates. Benjamin may be in the 5th percentile as far as his size, but he's the sweetest and most handsome little boy! When can I babysit?? More importantly, when are you 3 available to come over and play some poker? Will be giving you guys a call soon. Love, Carol

Lory, You don't know me but I'm Ginny's mom and Bobby Tucker's grandmother. Ginny sent me to your blog site so that I could know her new good friend. Benjamin is so cute and I particularly loved the asparagus video. I suspect I had the same reaction when I ate asparagus. As a matter of fact, I probably didn't like asparagus until I was grown. Don't worry a bit about the stats. One thing I learned when Ginny was growing up was that all children develop at different times and rates and what they are doing today has nothing to do with where they go in the years to come. I'm so glad you and Ginny have become friends. It's so nice to have friends who are at the same place in life and to watch your children grow up together. I looke forward to meeting you when I'm next in town. Patria
